Challenge is a good thing. So is difference. But violence and war are the things that come when one cannot deal with difference, or when one reacts to a challenge with fear. Conflict is a way we find meaning today: it entertains us; it wakes us up; it even teaches us about ourselves at times. And yet any meaning based on conflict alone proves temporary and empty because it must be constantly regenerated in order to sustain itself.
War is a part of our world right now. In this issue, rather than judge that fact, we explore what war means to us, why it is thought to be necessary, and whether there might be another way to recognize peace.
